The scab where the toe was cut has been growing itchier. I pulled away some of it to reveal new pinkish white skin underneath. I need to keep the scar covered from sunlight for the next several weeks so that it heals better. If I had a camera I would show you.
I have been working diligently to break up scar tissue with vigorous, painful massage. Thanks to the massage, the bruise is now completely invisible. Oh I just checked. Not completely.. still some splotches of olive, russet, and slate.
Also diligently, I keep stretching a little bit more each day. I spend a great deal of effort trying to move the toe laterally. I think it's so impossible because the muscle responsible for that has been severed. No amount of mental strain can will it to move. I have only been feigning success by anchoring the foot with the other toes and parts of the foot.
Today I removed the gutter splint I bought in an attempt to counter the bunion but left some gauze tape around the forefoot. I donned my favorite sneakers and voila! I was able to walk pretty decently. I felt some twinges of pain after bustling about trying to help my parents with a public event, but otherwise, I am happy with my progress. The shoe is more comfortable than barefootedness. Eventually I would like to get back to going barefoot with comfort.
